Ceremonial and decorative

Kinsaqocha

Kinsaqocha means "three lagoons" in Quechua. Three cups joined in one piece, each with its own built-in straw, so three drinks can be served from one vessel without mixing. An Inca design used in weddings until a few years ago: the couple drank from the same piece as a sign of their union.

Made in Raqchi

How this piece is made

The Amaru family builds it by hand at their workshop in Raqchi with the coiling technique: the clay is joined in rings, smoothed, painted with natural pigments and fired in a kiln. It is the technique of Inca pottery, and its knowledge and practices in Raqchi are recognized as Cultural Heritage of the Nation by Peru's Ministry of Culture.
